The Club has adopted the Kennel Club Code of Ethics with the addition of Item 7. The code is not a part of Club rules. This Code of Ethics applies to everyone who has agreed to be subject to the jurisdiction of the Kennel Club. They, whether owner keeper or in temporary charge of a dog for any purpose, accept their responsibility in that they will: 1. Properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs under their care and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention if and when required. 2. Not allow any of their dogs to roam at large or to cause a nuisance to neighbours or those carrying out official duties. 3. When their dogs are away from home, ensure that the dog shall wear properly tagged collars and shall be kept fully leashed or under effective control. 4. Acknowledge responsibility to clean up after their dogs in public places or anywhere where their dogs are being exhibited. 5. Agree without reservation that any Veterinary Surgeon operating on any of their dogs to correct an hereditary defect, must report such an operation to the KC. 6. Not breed from a bitch in any way which is deleterious to the bitch or her breed. 7. Conform with a special Code of Ethics for the relevant breed in order to produce sound and typical stock. a) It is recommended that Stafford bitches are not mated before attaining the age of eighteen months, nor after attaining the age of seven years, between which ages no more than four litters should be produced and a bitch should not be mated the season after whelping. b) Stud dogs should only be used for the betterment of the breed by only being allowed to mate bitches of suitable quality. c) All animals should be tested under a KC/BVA scheme (where applicable) and certificates should be produced as a pre-requisite to mating. 8. Only sell puppies and older dogs to homes where there is a reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life and will help with the re-housing of a dog if the initial circumstances change. 9. When placing their dogs in a new home, provide written details of all dietary requirements and supply guidance concerning responsible ownership. 10. That they will not sell any dogs to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind. 11. Not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed not falsely advertise dogs nor mislead any person regarding the quality of the dog. 12. When selling or transferring a dog to another person, ensure that all relevant KC documents are provided to the owner. Return to: Top |
